We are proud to have been judged the winners of Britain’s Best Loaf Competition 2021. This competition, organised by the market-leading British Baker Magazine, and sponsored by leading industry suppliers, requires bakeries to submit samples for judging by a group of leading industry experts who examine and discuss the bread samples in great detail.
The competition is open to all bakeries in the UK, from major suppliers to the smallest micro-bakery. There are six categories of bread, and we entered four of these. We were adjudged category winners in two and highly commended in a third. So yes, we were delighted!
The category winners were our Prune and Cardamom Sourdough for ‘Sourdough with other Ingredients’ and our City Loaf in the ‘white bread’ category. In addition, we received Highly Commended for our Mild White Sourdough in the ‘plain sourdough’ category. Category winners are re-submitted for further judging, and subsequently, our Prune and Cardamom Sourdough was declared Britain’s Best Loaf 2021.
We have had previous success in these competitions. In 2018 we were a category winner with our Easter Bread and Highly Commended for our Wholegrain Loaf. In 2019 we were White Bread Category Winners (no competition in 2020 due to Covid), so the pressure is on our bakers to see what they can achieve in 2022!
